A cure for lust

How do people control their lust, when they are all together, naked? Doesn't the Bible say it's wrong?<P>Only Native Residents may post here.

A cure for lust

Postby jochanaan » Mon Jul 10, 2006 6:12 pm

[I originally wrote this for Boyd Allen's forum a few days ago, and have altered the first paragraph slightly to post it here.]

Many arguments against nudity are concerned not with nudity per se, but with its supposed effects on the human mind, particularly the masculine human mind. But naturists have discovered that, contrary to what many non-naturists think, becoming accustomed to nudity actually reduces lust.

It works this way: The primary reason we think "sex" when we see a naked person or a picture of one is that in almost every other instance we never see a person naked. So, because we don't see nudity except when about to do sex, we associate sex with nudity. Can you say "circular reasoning"? But once a person gets accustomed to seeing nakedness in other contexts, the nudity/sex connection is broken and s/he can look on the nakedness of another person, and be naked himself/herself, without once being tempted to lust, that is, to desire inordinately and act on one's desire.

So if you really want to solve the lust problem, visit a nudist gathering! Look at the naked men and women, talk with them, shake their hands and look in their eyes, and then see if you lust after them. I can almost guarantee that you'll see them not as tempters or temptresses but as brothers and sisters.

I agree with this if you are talking about REAL, LIVE people, or images of naked men and women doing ordinary, everyday things in broad daylight, such as the images you will find on this and other "naturist" sites.

However, "pornographic" images are designed SPECIFICALLY to induce lust in the mind and to associate nudity exclusively with sex or sexuality.

But sadly, the culture has conditioned many people to think of even ordinary nudity as an invitation to sexual fantasy. Why else do the rules exist to make showing the areola as wrong, while showing all the bulging boob above it as not wrong? How illogical can that be? And it's not wrong to show the entire hip and buttock in a string bikini, but showing the pudenda is suddenly wrong? As you say, seeing the "all together" in non-sexualized contexts suddenly takes the lust out of it. One begins to learn that life is not all about sex, but -- life :!:

I agree, of course.

It is a staple on any naturist forum to hear the arguments of the proponents to say; "If only, and "what if" the world would adapt our ways, it would be a much better place. Indeed, it would--but not because of everyone's state of dress, or lack of it. No--being a naturist is much more than just getting naked in a social setting--any streaker has done that, and usually it was not likely for wholesome reasons. Swingers, and people with prurient desires get naked socially allot, for all the wrong reasons--and usually provide plenty of fodder for our detractors. No--a true naturist is about changing our minds and hearts to see nudity in a wholesome, and pure way, and promote positive affirmation of one another as fellow image bearers of the Creator. If the world could see through our eyes, no--through Christ's eyes, and what He sees in us, the world would truly be a nicer place.
