Thanks for the report NudeDude. I’m sorry your wife was made to feel uncomfortable but also glad she enjoyed being nude with you. I too would encourage you both to seek out a rwsortcwhere she’ll perhaps feel more comfortable.

We just got back from a trip to Austin for our anniversary. (3 years! PTL!) While there we went to hippie hollow. My thoughts are as follows: I had no issues being nude in public. Once my shorts came off, they didn't go back on until we left. My wife on the other hand while she enjoyed swimming nude the old creepy fella there and the three clothed dudes who came for a peep show didn't exactly make her feel comfy. :dislike: As such she was back in her bikini bottom at least twice while out of the water. The weather was sunny, but very windy, and as a diver, I didn't exactly appreciate the high wind waves that were whacking the shore, and making it difficult to rest in the water between dives, so that's a downer. :argh: We are both willing to go again, but there is one thing I really wish they would do about the place and that's make it nude only not C/O. I feel like this would deter the majority of gawkers, and make it more appealing to people who don't appreciate feeling like they're being treated like some porno show live.

In short: final score: :dislike: 2.5/5 stars. It's a good place, but I'm not in love.

That's why I think your plan to go anonymously with just your wife was well-intended, but ultimately, a very bad idea.
Some here offered to travel with you to Hippie Hollow.
With numbers comes strength in numbers. You turned them down.

Nudist clubs at Haulover Beach and similar public venues band together for protection from gawkers and rude men.
It works!

I still don't like the adults-only rule there. Travis County created this problem when they chose to fail to provide adequate law enforcement and failed again when they decided that banning children was the best response to "fix" this poorly supervised beach, overrun with drunks and sexual perversion.

Families with children create the very sort of wholesome atmosphere we need.
And a strong police presence wouldn't hurt either.

And making nudity mandatory would have helped too. Many beaches in Europe have that rule for the very reason you describe.

NudeDude, I hope the experience at Hippie Hollow didn't put a complete damper on y'all's trip. I'm sorry to hear that it turned out the way it did. I agree--Hippie Hollow should be all-nude, all the time, as any such place should be. Do you think the day or time you went had anything to do with the gawkers?

And, perhaps the most important question: barring gawkers and voyeurs, what are y'all's thoughts on naturism post-trip?

Ramblinman, I think NudeDude did all right by going with just his wife. I wouldn't call it a "very bad idea." Not the best--maybe so, but certainly not "very bad." I mentioned maybe meeting them down there, but even had NudeDude taken me up on the offer I likely wouldn't have been able to do it last weekend.
In nuditate veritas.

Been there, Hippie Hollow. I have seen clothed people "fishing, walking the trail, hanging out." Obviously gawkers. However, the county park staff who routinely patrol the place are clothed and easily identified. I'm fine with that, and in fact, they would be glad to hear concerns so they can check 'em out.

It wasn't a big damper on the trip. Frankly, I might've enjoyed it more if I had slept better the night before. We are willing to try it again, and she still loves being nude around the house, and has for awhile. As for the rest of the trip, we went to a different beach by the dam and did some snorkeling, and then just walked around the park awhile. We had a good trip, and hippie hollow didn't kill it for us. That said, I still would rather do more in private.

A certain percentage of clothed people at a nude beach are inspired rather than titillated, perhaps they will even try it out for themselves someday,
but no one likes to feel that they are a zoo exhibit. Mandatory nudity may be difficult to impossible to impose, but it would help tremendously.
Hippie Hollow is not the perfect venue.

I would have to agree here, Ramiblinman. I hate unneeded attention. My wife and I are rather introverted. We have a very small circle of friends, and with our jobs, it's difficult to make new friends and stay professional.

So when we ventured into naturism, we tried it very privately. Sought out a very secluded part of a lake, and did nothing with anybody else. Even coming to join this forum was a major step out of my comfort zone. So when we went to HH, we just did the same as always. I'm trying to expand my participation. Hence, if MoNatureMan has the summer get together at his place, we might just go.

I am in some middle ground between introversion and extroversion.
I need times of solitude and meditation, but God is very much with me in my "solitude"; I don't feel alone.
I don't want the sort of solitude that leaves God out, I had a taste of that outer darkness and don't want to go back there.

I enjoy a laugh and stimulating conversation with a small group. I can't imagine life without it.
I have spoken before large groups. It's not something I seek, but I do it when I need to.

It would be a pleasure to meet you and Mrs ND92 someday.
MoNatureMan offers a unique venue that may be just what you both are looking for.
It reminds me of a place that I used to go to in other years.
Large acreage, simple country living, clothing absolutely unneeded, but I never felt "naked" there.
Comfortable in my skin in the woods and meadows; happy moments with a small circle of friends.
As close to paradise as one can find these days.
