WGN News at Ponderosa Ranch

Postby natman » Mon Sep 14, 2015 4:53 pm

WGN Sports Anchor Pat Tomasulo spent some time at the Ponderosa Nudist Resort in Indiana and got to know the people there very well.

Well, he certainly didn't go for serious reporting! You all know I like word play, but that's most of what there was here; way too many verbal winks and nudges for a major news article.

Many moons ago (you decide if that's a pun or not), I used to live about an hour from Ponderosa. It was rarely mentioned in my circles and I don't remember a news article on it, in print or on the air. In this report, I can't tell if the reporter is intentionally making light of it or if he is trying to put a reporter's spin on it to make it palatable. But they did say it was about an hour and a half from Chicago (really, it's more like two hours). That'll probably generate some interest or at least some internet-nods.

Nudes a Poppin is a fun annual event held at the Ponderosa Sun Club in Roselawn Indiana (a nudist resort) NAP is the only time of the year that guests can bring their cameras! This year there were about 60 models, exotic dangers, and nude performance artists competing for trophies!

Erotic pole dancing, wet tshirt contests are some of what one can expect here.

"exotic dangers"

Typo, or Freudian slip?

Translation:
Nudes a Poppin is an event where hordes of voyeurs pay big money to bring their cameras to take pictures of porn stars, and wanna be porn stars. Prizes are given for most pornographic performances.

My information is that Ponderosa is mostly-family friendly the rest of the year, but NAP is a big moneymaker for them.

That is sad.

I wonder what would happen if the DIDN'T have the models, exotic dancers etc.

Perhaps people would see "naturism" for what it is, not what an internet search engine says it is. :(

I've heard rumors of a place in Indiana that features that kind of junk but didn't know it was in Roselawn. Too bad, too. Roselawn is (was, in my day at least) a nice community and this kind of thing taints the neighborhood.

I meant dancers, but yes, I perceive dangers too!

The type of event that confirms to the world that, yes, nudism is all about sex.

I shall play a bit of Devil's Advocate here. While nudism is not about sex, sex is a very fun activity to do while nude, and is enhanced by being outdoors. What if 51 weeks of the year they are upstanding, non-sexual nudists, but one weekend a year they open the place for people to express and enjoy their sexuality. Marriage is not about sex, but once married, people often (and are encouraged to for the sake of health) have sex on a regular basis.

If someone were to ask you, "why did you marry your spouse?" would you answer, "so I could have sex with him/her." I hope not. But I bet it was something you looked forward to doing. Nudism has that problem. It is _not_ about sex, but people do enjoy having sex, and having the sun, breeze, and water caress all your parts can make one more frisky. Mark Haskell Smith writes about this in "Naked at Lunch". He finds the neutering of people at nudist clubs to be odd and off-putting.

Now in NAP's case, it is a very unhealthy sexuality that is being expressed: Exhibitionism & voyeurism, the exchange of money to participate. It _is_ very sordid and perverse - in our opinions, as Christians who know a better Way.

Yes, we can agree that the porn fest weekend undoes a whole year's worth of effort to be the nucleus of a civil society without clothes whenever weather allows.

I also think that Mark Haskell Smith is wrong to claim that naturism is neutered by refraining from public sex.
Naturists find plenty of time for making love and making babies in private and rejoining their friends in the social arena later on.
Dancing, even nude dancing is a way to celebrate the joy of being male and female and can and should be done without lewdness.
Sensual without eroticism.
This is not complicated!
