setting posts to view newest to oldest

Postby naturist » Mon Jun 08, 2015 2:26 am

Hi, I tried looking in the Q & A but didn't find it an answer. I would like to set my preference to display the newest posts at the top of each thread. (like Face Book is). They seem to be out of sequence by dates. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hmmm.... that's unusual. I tried looking for a way to set the posts to the unwanted order, just to see if I could answer your question, but I didn't find that option.

By the way, instead of calling an ongoing list of posts a "thread", we prefer to call them a .... "strip"......

Indeed it is. Threads are for textiles.

Actually, I just realized that each post in a strip will always be from oldest on top to newest at the bottom, so you can read them in order. I believe comments on FB posts run the same way.

There is no way (that I know of) to change the order of the posts within a strip.

If you like to read things backwards, I guess you could just go to the bottom of the last page of a strip and start moving up from there.

I have not tested it, but one could try"

Thanks, I tried that change and it worked. :) I guess I just prefer the newest posts to show at the top, without having to scroll down looking for the end. It's nice I can switch it back and forth if I want.

You're right about Facebook, I do see the oldest comments were on top.

I guess I learned something new about my own forum.

I tried it also and it appears to work.

However, I still prefer to read posts from the top down.

I could see that a descending order would be good for linear news feed style sites such as Facebook, Twitter etc.. Otherwise, you would always have to scroll through years of posts in order to get to the most recent. That could be time consuming and cumbersome, especially on a handheld device or tablet.

However, on forum sites such as this, I think that it is easier to read from top to bottom, especially if you have the ability to jump to the last page directly if you desire.

I've read a lot of long strips on this forum before posting, and I agree oldest first was the easiest way to read all of them for the first time. Now I can open a post and immediately see what was currently posted.
