Firehouse baked beans

Postby firefighter » Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:47 am

Obviously a favorite at the station.

1lb lean ground beef
1 lg (28oz) can of your favorite bake beans (We like Bush's Original)
2 bell peppers chopped (I like to mix the colors up)
1 med onion chopped
dark brown sugar
your favorite BBQ sauce ( I like Sweet Baby Rays)
Hot sauce and or hot peppers optional. Add to taste.

In a lg skillet sauté the bell peppers and onions until they begin to caramelize then add the ground beef. While the beef is browning pour the beans in a baking dish then add the brown sugar and BBQ sauce. We don't use a specific measurement just add as much as you like at that moment (It taste slightly different each time we make it)

When the beef has browned add the remaining ingredients, mix well then bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
When we make it at the station we double the recipe and its enough 10 men (We can eat a lot!)
It's pretty much a meal in itself. Enjoy!

Mmm, that does sound good! :D

When you say "1 large can," how large is "large"?

It's either a 24 or 26oz can. I'll check next time were at the store and update later.

It's a 28oz can.

Adding hot sauce and hot peppers sounds good, but just have lots of beano and a fire extinguisher on hand. :)
